Joshua Reynolds Lib Dem MP for Maidenhead meets Slough Lob Dems

“Working for improvements in the NHS, tackling the cost-of-living crisis, and tackling sewage in our water, continue to be top Liberal Democrat priorities”, Joshua Reynolds MP told a meeting of Slough Lib Dems on Thursday, 30 January.

Joshua explained that following the large increase in the number of Lib Dem MPs in the highly successful General Election in 2024, the Lib Dems are now able to work more effectively in Parliament. On the NHS, the Lib Dems are pushing strongly for improvements in key services that matter to people, including access to A&E Departments, waiting times for GP appointments, and access to NHS dentists.

He said the Liberal Democrats are the “constructive opposition.” This means supporting the Labour Government when they do things that are right, but opposing them on the many issues where we do not agree with them. On issues where Labour are wrong, the Lib Dems try to make constructive suggestions for how the Government proposals could be improved.

Joshua gave the example of the Water Bill where a few days earlier Lib Dems had proposed various amendments to strengthen the proposals made by the Labour Government to tackle the sewage crisis.

In response to questions, Joshua said people are disappointed at Labour’s failure to improve the economy, and increasingly realising that to tackle problems such as the cost-of-living crisis, the UK needs to restore better trading links with the EU. The Lib Dems are pushing for better trade links with the Europe Union.

Joshua also explained that better trade links with the EU are also increasingly important because of the threat from new US President Donald Trump.

Members of Slough Lib Dems welcomed Joshua’s clear statement that: “We are the anti-Trump party.”  Local party members are appalled by many of Donald Trump’s policies and views, including his suggestions that Palestinians should be removed from Gaza.
