Tom McCann - Liberal Democrats candidate in the Slough Parliamentary constituency
Lib Dem candidate Tom McCann challenges Fiona Mactaggart again over the Iraq war and the economy
Tom McCann welcomes his selection as Lib Dem candidate for Slough and looks forward to challenging Fiona Mactaggart again. Tom said, "When I stood as Liberal Democrat candidate for Slough in 2005 a major issue was why Fiona Mactaggart had voted for Tony Blair's Iraq war. Ten years on we're still waiting for answers about the Iraq war."
Tom continued, "The Iraq war was not just a disastrous mistake, it also cost the UK taxpayers over £9 billion. This is one of the reasons why the last Labour Government ran up such a massive deficit that made the economic crisis so bad."
Mr McCann, a healthcare charity worker in Berkshire, said "The Lib Dems in Government have not only helped tackle the deficit left by the irresponsible Labour Government, we have also achieved many of the things we promised to do. These include cutting tax by an average of £825 for millions of workers through the increased personal allowances, delivering the Pupil Premium which has brought in over £16million extra for Slough schools, and securing a 'triple lock' on pensions that guarantees bigger increases."
Tom promised members of the Slough Lib Dems, "If elected as an MP it will be my full-time job, and I will work with local campaigners to help make Slough a better place."
