A team of Lib Dem students led by Damayanti Chatterjee from Upton delivered a Focus leaflet promoting Niccola Parkes, Lib Dem candidate in Haymill & Lynch Hill, and her Dad, Rod Parkes, Lib Dem candidate in Upton. (The photo shows Damayanti & Rod in the centre).

The Focus leaflet highlights the Lib Dem call for Slough Borough Council to join others across the country that have declared a Climate Emergency, and start planning for Slough to be carbon neutral by 2030. A public health approach to tackling air pollution is important. The Lib Dems also call for an audit of progress towards meeting the 2009 motion from former Lib Dem councillor Robert Plimmer calling for Slough Council itself to go carbon neutral by 2020.

The leaflet describes how Slough Lib Dems joined the million+ on the recent march calling for a People's Vote, but that Jeremy Corbyn let down so many people by being missing from the march.

The leaflet also describes a range of policies for improving services in Slough, including the importance of a joined-up approach to health, social care and wellbeing, Slough Council should reverse its massive rise in the charge for hiring sports pitches. Since the Labour Council introduced their big increase in charges, activity levels in Slough have slumped.

Lib Dem policies such as replacing the Business rates would give a boost to the town centre. Specific policies on housing would put the interests of Slough residents before those of property developers. Labour and Tory councillors have not done enough to insist on new developments, such as in Bath Rd, provide some housing for key workers, shared ownership, or social housing.
