Slough Liberal Democrats select Gary Griffin, a campaigner who stands up for Slough, as candidate for Haymill and Lynch Hill
Slough Liberal Democrats have chosen long-standing Slough resident and campaigner Gary Griffin as their candidate for the Haymill and Lynch Hill by-election to Slough Borough Council on 4th May.
Gary stood up for Slough residents in recent consultations and is shocked that local Conservatives failed to do so. Gary says "I told the Boundary Commission that their plans to implement Conservative Government proposals by moving Salt Hill Park, Chalvey and part of High Street out of Slough constituency and into Windsor constituency were unacceptable. I'm shocked that local Conservatives failed to oppose these proposals."
Gary is concerned about the failure of the Conservative Government to fund the NHS and Social Care adequately. Gary says "I welcome the Lib Dem plans for guaranteed sustainable funding for the NHS and Social Care, and getting them to work together to best meet the needs of local people." Gary also supports the campaign by Slough Lib Dems against the Labour council's massive increase in charges for sports pitches which damages attempts to increase physical activity and improve health and well-being.
Gary asks "how can Slough Labour Council find the money for unwanted traffic schemes, including along the A4, and then cut bus services?" Through volunteering for a charity protecting the interests of older people in Slough, Gary knows the importance to local people of reliable, affordable public transport. But public transport in Slough has been damaged by the Labour-run council's mismanagement of the Heart of Slough project including the bus station.
Gary also supports Lib Dem campaigns to ensure that European citizens already settled in Slough, and throughout the UK, are able to stay. And he believes that the same should apply to British citizens settled in Europe.
