Tom McCann celebrated his selection for the third time as Lib Dem candidate for Slough by saying: "As a campaigner active in promoting healthcare I am delighted at the Lib Dem plans to massively increase funding for our precious health and social care services. I look forward to campaigning on this as widely as I can in Slough."

Long-time Berkshire resident, Tom said, "It's time for a change in Slough. When I stood as Lib Dem candidate for Slough in 2005 a major issue was why the town's Labour MP had voted for Tony Blair's Iraq war. Since then the local Labour party has been complacent and gone ahead with unpopular traffic schemes throughout the town, and has totally failed to get the Heart of Slough project completed in the timescales promised. Slough needs an MP who will stand up for residents when the Labour-run Council is failing to listen to them. I will also use my extensive experience in the building trade to press for action to tackle Slough's housing crisis."

On the controversial issue of Brexit, Tom said: "I respect Slough's vote to leave the EU, but once the final terms of leaving have been negotiated, UK citizens should have the final say about leaving the EU in a second referendum."

Mr McCann said "The Lib Dems are committed to continuing popular policies we introduced when in government, including delivering the Pupil Premium which has brought in millions in extra funding for Slough schools, and securing a 'Triple Lock' on pensions that guarantees bigger increases. Both adequate school funding and the Triple Lock are now under threat from the Conservative Government."

Tom promised members of the Slough Lib Dems, "If elected as an MP it will be my full-time job, and I will work with local campaigners to help make Slough a better place. Unlike a Labour MP I will stand up against the Labour council when it fails."
