Slough Lib Dems: "more action needed to protect health & social services"

Today's budget does not do enough to deal with the many problems facing our NHS & social care systems. In response to today's budget Slough Lib Dems set our long-standing campaign to save the health & social care services from a series of threats, and improve the local services:

1. Lack of adequate long-term funding or joined up policies for health & social care: Lib Dems have campaigned for years for better funding & joined up policies for our health & social care services. Lib Dem campaigner Sukh Dhillon has been highlighting these points in Upton (see photo).

2. Loss of skilled EU citizens who currently work in Slough's health & social care services: A Freedom of Information request from Cippenham Meadows Lib Dem campaigner Matthew Taylor revealed that 16% of the workforce at Wexham Park Hospital were non-British EU nationals. Lib Dems such as Matthew across Slough and elsewhere are working through social media and other ways to promote the message that, post-Brexit, EU citizens already working here, including in our NHS & care homes, are most welcome to stay.

3. Social care is in crisis: Lib Dems demand Boris Johnson's Government stops ignoring these problems.

4. A post-Brexit trade deal between Donald Trump & his friend Boris Johnson: Lib Dems are campaigning to warn of potential dangers in a trade deal with Trump. US pharmaceutical companies want to increase prices charged to the NHS by billions of pounds. And private US companies want to take over parts of our NHS.

5. Better joined up policies locally to improve health: Slough Council needs a long-term, joined-up strategy that should include working with partners to ensure improved mental health services, better access to GP surgeries and increased use of leisure facilities by sections of Slough's population who might most benefit from enhanced levels of fitness.
