Slough Lib Dem Jo Hanney says:

"The Lib Dems have been campaigning for almost 3 years for a people's vote to let the British public decide if they want to accept the deal to leave the EU, or would rather remain in the EU. The Lib Dems are gaining increasing support in the European elections because we have been so clear we want a people's vote and will campaign in the referendum to remain in the EU."

"There are many reasons why we'd be better remaining in the EU than leaving. These include the dangers leaving will cause to our NHS and social care as the many nurses, doctors and other staff from other EU countries decide to leave because they no longer feel welcome in the UK. There are also dangers that in any post-Brexit trade deal with the USA, President Trump will insist that US private health companies be allowed to bid to run parts of our precious NHS. Leaving the EU will also be increasingly bad for our economy, for example there has already been falling investment and job losses in the UK car industry that relies on working closely across Europe."

"The Lib Dems also regularly highlight the many positive advantages of remaining in the EU. These include the freedom for UK citizens to study, work and live in any of the other 27 countries, and the opportunities to work together across Europe to tackle climate change and pollution. Last, but not least, it is always worth remembering that the EU was created to promote peace between European countries, and thus far it has been remarkably successful."
