Lib Dems leading the campaign to Stop Brexit, just as we were the party campaigning against the Iraq war- Vince Cable.

'The Liberal Democrats have launched their European election campaign with an "unambiguous" pledge to stop Brexit.' This is how the BBC described the launch of the Lib Dem campaign for the European elections on 23 May.

The Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable said a "people's vote" was the only way to end the Brexit "paralysis". The massive gains for the Lib Dems in the local elections across the country on Thurs 2 May confirmed the Lib Dems as the leading party campaigning to stop Brexit.

Sir Vince Cable described how the Lib Dems have been leading the call for a People's Vote on any final Brexit deal, with an option to remain. The Lib Dems campaign for a final vote on the deal started in 2016. The photo shows local Lib Dems in the campaign in Slough for a People's Vote.

Sir Vince likened the party's campaign for a People's Vote to the Lib Dems' opposition to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The invasion of Iraq was backed by the Labour Government and the Conservative Opposition at the time. Sir Vince said the Lib Dems were proved right to oppose the Iraq war, just as many others have now joined the campaign for a People's Vote.

The Lib Dems' first leaflet for the European elections describes ways in which the Labour Party is a Brexit party, and commits the Lib Dems to continuing to oppose Brexit. It highlights the benefits of staying in the EU. The Lib Dem vision for the UK to remain in the EU is to use the economic prosperity to improve lives in every part of the country, to work together to take concerted action to tackle the climate emergency, and to protect our vital public services by welcoming the contribution made to services such as the NHS by the European citizens who work in our hospitals etc. The full leaflet is available here: Lib Dem European elections leaflet 1
