Cippenham Lib Dems Lead Community Litter-Pick

A discarded car battery was just one of the items of litter and fly-tipping removed when Lib Dems Robert Plimmer and Matthew Taylor led a community litter pick in Cippenham Meadows on Saturday 10 Nov.

The team picked up any litter they saw as they moved from the Community Centre on Earls Lane to the footpath between Moor Furlong, Nicholas Gardens and Hunters Way. Having concentrated on this area for a while, the team then moved on to the footpath around Western House Academy between Eltham Avenue and Richards Way.

Local resident and campaigner Robert Plimmer said: "If I notice concentrations of litter or fly-tipping when I'm out delivering the local Lib Dem Focus newsletter I write to Slough Borough Council on behalf of local residents asking for action. In February I'd first asked for action to tackle the litter in the footpath between Eltham Ave and Richards Way. But then in March I decided we could wait no longer and took direct action to clean up this footpath as part of the Great British Spring Clean."

Robert continued: "Keeping on top of litter and fly-tipping is best way to reduce it. Inevitably some problems had re-emerged by November, so our team has had another community clean up. Again we are grateful to the Council for providing the necessary equipment for the litter pick."

Matthew Taylor, another member of the Cippenham Lib Dem Focus team was joined on the litter pick by his son. Matthew said: "In recent weeks we've been working in the community not only by leading the Cippenham litter pick, but also by letting people in Langley and the Farnham Road area show their support for a People's Vote on Brexit. We know there is interest in both issues from local people."
