A People’s Vote to Remain is vital to combat climate change and air pollution
Slough Lib Dems are calling for the Council to join those across the UK that have declared a climate emergency and are urgently developing action plans to go carbon neutral by 2030.
Josephine Hanney says:
"The steps needed to go carbon neutral, and tackle the increasingly recognised problems of air pollution, are strengthened through collaboration with other EU countries. Pollution and climate change do not recognise national borders. The EU is currently responsible for ensuring the government complies with air quality legislation, but this would be lost after Brexit.
In so many ways the Tory Government has shown it cannot be trusted to take sufficient action to tackle climate change and pollution. The Tories have undone many measures introduced by the Lib Dems in the coalition Government, for example the Tories have cut funding for cleaner onshore wind energy. With the improved technologies clean energy can now also be cheaper. Therefore the Tories are damaging the environment and pushing up energy prices."
