No to Boris, Yes to a People's Vote

July 27, 2019 5:34 PM

Slough Lib Dems were In the Thick of It at the latest march in London saying Yes to a People's Vote to Stop Brexit, and No to Boris Johnson and his plans for a No Deal Brexit which will threaten UK science, the NHS and so much else.

Even in the week since the march, fears about the dangers of Boris Johnson's No Deal Brexit have grown. The chairwoman of the Wellcome Trust, and former director general of MI5, Lady Eliza Manningham-Buller, explained the nature of the threat to UK science. As reported by the BBC, she wrote to the new Prime Minister stating:

"Wellcome spends around £1bn a year to support research, and most of our money is spent in the UK because it has a thriving sector. Leaving the EU without a deal is a threat to that."

There are also growing fears about the nature of any post-Brexit trade deal between Donald Trump and Boris Johnson, or "Britain Trump" as Trump referred to Johnson in very poor English. These fears include the belief that US private health care companies will be pressing very strongly for any trade deal to allow them to bid to take over parts of our NHS.

Slough Lib Dems will keep campaigning to Stop Brexit, and all the threats it brings. Stopping Brexit would give a major boost to the UK economy and continuing European cooperation.
