Slough Lib Dems celebrating successes in European elections, and planning Stop Brexit campaigning

June 27, 2019 8:47 PM

Slough Lib Dems are celebrating their role in helping the Lib Dems elect 3 of the South East's 10 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). Catherine Bearder ( @catherinemep ) was re-elected, and is joined by @antonyhook and @JudithBuntingLD

The local party delivered leaflets in many parts of Slough, but in the short time available could not get to every street: apologies to those who missed out on receiving one of our 'Stop Brexit' leaflets. Slough Lib Dems are now planning how to continue helping the campaign to keep the UK in the EU.

Slough Lib Dems with the People's Vote BrexitometerAs shown in the photo, from Autumn 2018, Slough Lib Dems such as Matthew Taylor and Josephine Hanney (and others) have been working hard for months to campaign for a People's Vote on any Brexit Deal, with an option to Remain in the EU.

In her letter published in local papers Jo Hanney thanked the residents of Slough who voted Lib Dem in the European elections. She described how the almost 500% increase in the Lib Dem vote in Slough helped elect the 3 MEPS, and pushed the Lib Dems up into third place in the town, well ahead of the Tories.

Jo also explained how the Lib Dems will continue to campaign for a People's Vote on the final Brexit Deal, and to Stop Brexit. Then, assuming the campaign to remain in the EU is successful, our Lib Dem MEPs will also work constructively in the years ahead with others on matters that are best dealt with at the European level. These include issues such as tackling climate change and pollution, and combating organised crime like human trafficking.
