Labour and Tories combine to increase your council tax by 8.6% over 2 years

March 22, 2019 10:51 AM

Over the last 2 years a combination of Slough's Labour Council and the Tory Government and Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner have increased Slough's council tax bill by 8.6%.

It was an above-inflation 4.7% in 2018/19, and on top of that a further above-inflation 3.9% rise in 2019/20.

The Tory Government's under-funding of the police and social care is a key reason for the above-inflation increases. The Tory Government could have found the money to avoid cuts and under-funding in recent years. But the police and social care were not sufficient priority for the Tory Ministers.

To avoid even worse cuts, the local Tory Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner made you pay by increasing the police part of the council tax by over 20% over 2 years. This was a 7% increase in 2018/19, and on top of that a 13.2% increase in 2019/20.
