Sarah Meets US Democratic Party Leader Howard Dean

April 1, 2009 4:25 PM

Sarah Ludford met US Democratic leader Governor Howard Dean when he discussed developments in the US since the election of President Obama, as well as the future of US-EU relations, with members of the European Parliament's delegation to the United States.

Sarah also heard Howard Dean when he came to the Liberal Democrats' spring conference in Harrogate a few weeks ago, and she said: "Howard Dean played a major part in the election of Barack Obama with his campaign skills and he is a hugely inspiring liberal speaker. But he is also a very well-informed and thoughtful policy leader who welcomes the role of the EU as a strong and capable partner to the US on reviving the global economy, combating climate change and upholding human rights and the rule of law. He leaves Eurosceptics spluttering impotently when they claim European unity is anti-American!"
