Child protection across Europe could soon receive a major boost with the creation of a Europe-wide missing child recovery system.
Sponsored by Lib Dem MEP Diana Wallis and backed by the parents of Madeleine McCann, the EU Parliament has passed a campaign calling for a Europe-wide 'amber alert' system.
This would be a partnership between law enforcement agencies and the media, posting immediate bulletins, operating with messages on TV, radio and motorway signs.
There would also be a missing child hotline and a European rapid response and policy unit.
Hard-working local MEP Sharon Bowles supports the scheme.
She said, 'Other European countries, such as France and Belgium, already have in place a similar scheme - it's about time the system was adopted across the EU, to make all children safer. Protecting children is vital- let's do everything we can.'
